Springstead Village, Cherry Hinton is a mixed-use, sustainable community for Cambridge and the surrounding district. Five distinct character areas provide a total of 1,200 homes clustered around a new local centre, creating a walkable neighbourhood. Surrounded by landscape, the development will form a special new part of Cambridge, linked to the existing edge of Cherry Hinton.
The neighbourhood centre will be framed on three sides by a school, community building, retail space and health centre. Buildings are to be truly tenure blind and characterised by contemporary architectural details, within a palette of traditional building materials.
Taking inspiration from farm, barn and cottage typologies the character areas vary in density, from regular blocks arranged around green squares to homes facing onto a linear park, informed by the formal Georgian and early Victorian suburbs of Cambridge. Attractive green spaces and play areas provide safe routes to the local centre and proposed school.
The vision is to create a flagship community for East Cambridge, built in five phases, with an estimated completion date of 2030.
